WHAT IT’S FOR

Mammography is a fundamental test for the prevention of breast cancer.
It is a morphological diagnostic technique (which therefore studies the shape and structure of the breast) and allows you to detect breast lesions at an early stage, which occur below form of nodular opacities with irregular margins, polymorphic micro calcifications, or areas of structural distortion.

WHEN TO DO IT AND HOW MUCH

It is advisable to start undergoing a mammography examination from the age of 40, when the mammary structure, gradually changing, it becomes less and less rich in glandular components.
It is prescribed to women under 40 only in a few cases selected by the specialist.
In general, outpatient and ultrasound checks are preferred under the age of 40.

HOW TO DO IT

The mammogram lasts a few minutes and is performed with a special radiological instrument called a mammograph,
capable of projecting an X-ray beam aimed at the breast.

PREPARATION

The use of deodorants, lotions and talcum powder is not recommended on the day of the exam as they can
appear in the image in the form of white dots simulating micro calcifications.

RISKS

The dose of radiation administered is extremely low, so the examination is not dangerous.
